Some Wisdom by Leo Tolstoy

Lev Nikolayevitch Tolstoy (9 September 1828 – 20 November 1910) was a Russian writer, philosopher and social activist; his name is usually rendered into English as Leo Tolstoy, and sometimes Tolstoi.

"If I were told that what I shall write will be read in twenty years by the children of today and that they will weep and smile over it and will fall in love with life, I would devote all my life and all my strengths to it."

"The hero of my tale, whom I love with all the power of my soul, whom I have tried to portray in all his beauty, who has been, is, and will be beautiful, is Truth."

"I know that most men — not only those considered clever, but even those who are very clever and capable of understanding most difficult scientific, mathematical, or philosophic, problems — can seldom discern even the simplest and most obvious truth if it be such as obliges them to admit the falsity of conclusions they have formed, perhaps with much difficulty — conclusions of which they are proud, which they have taught to others, and on which they have built their lives."

"To evoke in oneself a feeling one has once experienced, and having evoked it in oneself, then by means of movements, lines, colors, sounds, or forms expressed through words, so to convey this so that others may experience the same feeling — this is the activity of art."

"Seize the moments of happiness, love and be loved! That is the only reality in the world, all else is folly. It is the one thing we are interested in here."

Documentary "Money as Debt" and sequel

We are all tired of hearing about the economic crisis, about the sky rocketing national debt and how we all have to tighten our belts to pay such debt through higher taxes and diminishing public services. However, despite being constantly bombarded by the news of the symptoms of said economic crisis, do we really understand how it all started?! Do the economists even question the foundation of the problem, which is the how the economic system was set up in the first place?

The following animated presentations of 'Money As Debt' (47:07) and the sequel 'Promises Unleached' (1:17:30) explain, in very simple terms, what money is and how it is being created. The sequel, explores the baffling, fraudulent and destructive arithmetic of the monetary system that holds us hostage to a forever growing debt and how we might evolve beyond it.

The movies contain several revelatory quotations from influential people from the past. But one that really hit home was this one by Leo Tolstoy:

"Money is a new form of slavery, and distinguishable from the old simply by the fact that it is impersonal — that there is no human relationship between master and slave."

After watching this revealing short documentary it becomes clear why there are communities creating their own currency.

Typical UK MP Salaries

"A 'bog standard' backbench MP is paid a salary of £60,675 a year. They get 18 weeks holiday a year, and can participate in a generous final income pension scheme.

They can claim up to £90,505 as a staffing allowance, and many use this to 'employ' members of their own families. They are also entitled to an Incidental Expenses Provision of up to £21,339 per annum, and an Additional Costs Allowance of up to £23,083 a year, to cover nights spent away from home.

For the year 2006/07, the average expenses claim for each MP was an incredible £135,773."

Peter Dale Scott: Recipe for a Sucessful Revolution

Peter Dale Scott is a former Canadian diplomat and English Professor at the University of California, Berkeley as well as a poet, writer, and researcher.

In this clip he explains what the real problem is in the USA (and the world) and what steps are necessary to bring about a successful revolution, which by the way has already started and won't be televised.

Don't be afraid, he's not an extremist of any sort :) - His words are very inspirational.
